Igniting Ideas: Emerging Artists | 2025 Student Art Exhibition Application Guide
Introduction to the Student Art Exhibition
We are thrilled to introduce the 2025 Igniting Ideas: Emerging Artists | Student Art Exhibition, a unique opportunity for young BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) artists to showcase their talents. As part of Ignite Arts & STEM (IAS), this event provides a vibrant platform for students in grades 6-12 to display their creative skills in a professional art exhibition. We hope that this 2025 Student Art Exhibition Application Guide helps answers any question you may have about this exciting program.
Overview of Ignite Arts & STEM (IAS)
Ignite Arts & STEM is dedicated to fostering creativity and empowerment among young artists, particularly those from BIPOC communities. We believe in amplifying diverse voices within the art world and providing them access to professional opportunities and exposure.
Significance of BIPOC Representation in Art
Representation matters immensely in the realm of art. BIPOC artists offer vital perspectives and narratives that foster understanding and spark conversations about identity, culture, and experience. Through this Student Art Exhibition, we celebrate these artists, helping to challenge Eurocentric standards of beauty and encourage authenticity in artistic expressions.
Importance of the Student Art Exhibition for Young Artists
The Student Art Exhibition is not just a showcase; it’s a launchpad for young artists. By participating, students gain valuable experience, visibility, and feedback on their work. This opportunity can ignite or bolster their artistic career trajectories, helping them realize their potential as artists.
Eligibility Criteria for Participation
To ensure that we support our intended demographic, we have clear eligibility criteria for participation in the exhibition.
Age Group and Identifying as BIPOC
The exhibition is open solely to students in grades 6 through 12 who identify as BIPOC. This focus creates an opportunity for young artists to connect with peers from similar backgrounds and experiences.
Acceptable Mediums for Submissions
We encourage submissions of various two-dimensional art forms, which include:
- Paintings: Such as oil, acrylics, and watercolor.
- Drawings: Including colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, and charcoal (always a good idea to fix charcoal and pastels).
- Collages: Must remain two-dimensional.
- Prints: Such as lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints.
- Mixed Media: Combining more than two artistic mediums.
- Computer-generated art and photographs.
Students may submit one artwork—this could be a newly created piece or an existing work that meets the submission criteria.
Submission Limitations
While we are excited about the variety of submissions, each student is limited to submitting one piece. This allows us to focus on quality and provide fair judging for all the entries received.
Application Process
Getting involved is straightforward! We’re here to guide you through the application process.
